Israel Film Fund

Since its establishment in 1979 the Israel Film Fund has been at the cutting edge of Israeli filmmaking. The Fund is celebrating 30 years of being an active and leading partner to the success, creativity and inspiring vision of Israeli Filmmaking. The Fund has had a crucial impact on defining the character of Israeli cinema; the stories, the visual language and the production principals of Israeli filmmaking.

The Israel Film Fund supports and accompanies the production of a film from the "Idea to the Poster". Being the main fund that supports and encourages Israeli feature film productions, the fund's main aim is to create the opportunity for the most talented filmmakers to bring their vision and creativity to the screen.

The Fund is celebrating the production of more than 300 films which reflect the fascinating, complex and turbulent Israeli social and cultural fabric. Over 100 films were screened in the official competitions of the most celebrated International film festivals. The films were awarded over 250 prizes for their outstanding achievements.

The Fund has supported and gave a first chance to over 60 filmmakers such as Ari Folman, Eran Riklis, Dror Shaul, Dover Kosashvili, Eran Kolirin, Eitan Fox, Joseph Cedar, Etgar Keret & Shira Geffen, Yaron Shani & Scandar Kopti, Samuel Maoz and many others.

The Fund set a goal to rebuild the local audience and strengthen the ties with Israeli feature films and Israeli cinema. Through special actions & projects the Fund managed to turn the image of Israeli cinema around. The number of local viewers of Israeli films at the cinemas has grown from 140,000 viewers in 2000 to 1,300,000 in 2004! Since then an average of 1,000,000 viewers have been watching Israeli films in the cinemas.

The implementation of a vigorous marketing policy, increased the number of Israeli Feature films distributed all over the world. In 2004, 800,000 viewers watched Israeli feature films in cinemas around the world, by 2005 the number rose and since then over 1,000,000 viewers around the world have been watching each year Israeli films at their local cinemas.

The Israel Film Fund is committed to lead Israeli Cinema to new frontiers and will keep on playing a leading role in stirring Israeli filmmakers to creativity and to the realization of their talent, vision and passion for films.
